Parish Music Ministry

The St Francis of Assisi Ohariu, Parish Music Ministry works to ensure that all Masses and liturgies are covered musically, by building relationships with musicians throughout the Parish and within each community. We aim to include musical settings and hymns that reflect our Parish’s diverse cultural makeup.

We aim to achieve this by:

  • Encouraging congregational liturgy in prayer through song
  • Emphasising themes of liturgy by choosing appropriate music
  • Leading the singing and encouraging congregational participation
  • Increasing the musical repertoire
  • Being available for liturgical celebrations other than Sunday Mass e.g. weddings, funerals, baptisms, sacramental celebrations
  • Participating in ecumenical celebrations e.g. Christmas

We have a range of music groups across all three churches in the parish. To find out more, contact the Felicity Giltrap (

St Benedict’s Ministry of Music

As part of the wider Parish Music our musicians (Organists, Music Group members, Cantors, the Parish Choir, and instrumentalists) provide music at most Vigil and Sunday Masses and 1st Saturday services as well as on other special occasions during the year, including First Reconciliation services, Confirmation, First Communion, the Ngaio Ecumenical Service, Requiem Masses, Anointing Masses and Weddings.

Music Group: The music group leads the music at two or three Masses per month, including the fifth Saturday, and includes a wide range of music in its repertoire. The Music Group also assists with Parish-School Masses.
